Kwartet ProForma

The band was founded in 2001 in Poznań by Przemysław Lembicz and Marcin Żmuda. For few years, the group performed as a duo. More musicians joined it over time, creating a unique quartet of five. In 2012 the group started cooperation with Kazik Staszewski – leader of the legendary Polish band called Kult. This resulted with a new formation named Kazik i Kwartet Proforma [Kazik and ProForma Quartet].

Our cooperation with Kwartet ProForma started in March 2015 and from the beginning of 2018 it has been extended by band-manager relation.

Kwartet ProForma [ProForma Quartet] is a unique quartet of five. Their interests and musical temperament place the band somewhere between poetic folk and heavy rock, including all intermediate shades.

In 2015, the album “Na końcu świta” [Dawn at the end of the world] was released, containing 16 original songs composed into a coherent concept, touching the final matters with both seriousness and humor. The album was well received by audiences and critics. The opinions emphasized the maturity and variety of music as well as the performance perfection of the band.

In March 2012, Kwartet ProForma invited Kazik Staszewski to perform together a few songs written by Stanisław Staszewski – Kazik’s father. This one-off project resulted in the formation of Kazik i Kwartet Proforma [Kazik and ProForma Quartet] ensemble, recording and releasing in 2015 the double album “Wiwisekcja” [Vivisection]. Two years later, in 2017, another album was released, “Tata Kazika kontra Hedora” [Kazik’s father versus Hedorah] with songs written to Stanisław Staszewski’s poems, found after many years. For over a year, the songs from this album were around the top of the Polish Radio Channel 3 chart. Two of them, “Most” [Bridge] and “Gdybym miał kogoś” [If I had someone], made it to the number one of this prestigious chart. In 2018, the album “Tata Kazika kontra Hedora” was certified gold.

In November 2017, the program ”Leonard Cohen. We know who he is” had its premiere. Kwartet ProForma with guests presented songs from the repertoire of the Canadian bard, translated by Daniel Wyszogrodzki in new, original arrangements.

Kwartet ProForma has already played nearly 1000 concerts in Poland and abroad (Germany, Ukraine, Ireland, USA). The band regularly performs at various author’s song festivals.

The permanent concert repertoire includes, among others:

  • original songs (with original texts or poems of Stanisław Staszewski, Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, Jacek Kaczmarski, translations of texts by Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and many other artists associated with the broadly understood poetic song);
  • songs by Leonard Cohen, in original translations and new arrangements;
  • songs from the repertoire of Stanisław Staszewski (Kazik’s father, author of, among others, “Celina” and “Baranek”), as well as Kazik Staszewski (leader of the band Kult) – prepared in own arrangements;
  • about 250 songs by Jacek Kaczmarski and the Kaczmarski – Gintrowski – Łapiński trio, as well as solo songs by Przemysław Gintrowski. In this repertoire, multimedia concerts (e.g. for high schools) are very popular, where Jacek Kaczmarski’s songs, inspired by the works of Polish and international masters of painting, are illustrated with images displayed on the screen;

Current line-up:

  • Przemysław Lembicz – lead vocals, guitar
  • Marcin Żmuda – keyboards, vocals
  • Piotr Lembicz – guitar
  • Wojciech Strzelecki – bass guitar, double bass, vocals
  • Marek Wawrzyniak – drums, percussion instruments
